The Grand Prize Has Soared Beyond $3,300,000 In Only Five Days!
The December Thunder Bay 50/50 is officially off to the strongest start ever recorded, positioning this month to become the largest 50/50 in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation history.
“This is unprecedented momentum,” said Glenn Craig, President and CEO of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. “Every December, our community shows up in an extraordinary way. But this year, the response has been beyond anything we've ever seen.”
By Wednesday morning, the Grand Prize for December 2025 reached $3,300,000, compared to $2,238,560 at the same point last year. How much larger could the Grand Prize grow by the end of the month? Who knows, only time will tell.
“We are so grateful for all of the support we've received this year, I'd be lying if I said we expected any of this when we launched the Thunder Bay 50/50 back in 2021,” Craig said. “And if this trajectory continues, we may be looking at a truly historic number for supporters across Northwestern Ontario.”
The record-breaking start can be attributed to several factors working together to create unprecedented momentum. This year's draw features a $2.5 million guaranteed Grand Prize, along with $500,000 in Secondary Prizes; the most ever offered. Supporters are also responding strongly to the special $250 Holiday Ticket Package, available only in December, and the return of Bonus Numbers on select ticket packages. Combined with the highest number of winners ever featured in a single month, these enhancements have fueled exceptional early engagement and rapidly accelerated sales.
The combination of high-value prizes, expanded Early Bird opportunities, and enthusiastic community participation has created a surge unlike anything the Thunder Bay 50/50 has seen before.
Craig credits the program's success to a dedicated supporter base and a commitment to delivering the best possible experience. “Our supporters trust this program, and they know exactly what their participation achieves,” he said. “Every ticket purchased helps fund life-saving equipment, services, and care for patients right here in Northwestern Ontario.”
The Thunder Bay 50/50 has now awarded over $82 million in total sales since February 2021 and remains the largest monthly hospital 50/50 in Canada. With extraordinary early sales and nearly an entire month of draws still ahead, December 2025 is already shaping up to be the most transformative month in the program's history.
