Neebing Resident Wins $2.4 Million in March 50/50 and Eyes Retirement

It's the day many look forward to each month — when one lucky Thunder Bay 50/50 ticket holder gets the famous “last Friday of the month” call from Health Sciences Foundation CEO Glenn Craig.
This month, that call went to Neebing resident Alf Mayr.
“You just made my day… you just made my life,” said Mayr after learning he had won $2,487,390 in the March 50/50.
Mayr, an underground mechanic at Lac des Iles Mine, didn't take long to start thinking about what the win could mean. “I think I might have just retired,” he said.
“I used to work seven on, seven off… and now I am seven off, seven off.”
Following the call, the Charitable Gaming team met up with Alf and his wife Simone in person and talked about what they plan to do with their winnings.
“I'm doing a bunch of renos on the house — these renos are going to happen a little quicker,” Alf said.
He also told his wife they would buy something on St. Joe's Island, where they go turkey hunting.
“I used to work seven on, seven off… and now I am seven off, seven off,” said Alf Mayr, pictured with his wife Simone after winning $2,487,390 in the March Thunder Bay 50/50.
